Fur? Barbie would rather go naked!

Hoy estoy aquí para contaros como algunas Barbies de mi vitrina (no todas puesto que a algunas de ellas, al ser de colección no se les puede quitar la ropa) han dicho NO al uso de pieles.

Las primeras celebrities en unirse a esta campaña de PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) fueron las chicas del grupo The Go-Go’s en el año 1991, Gina Schock, Kathy Valentine, Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, y Charlotte Caffey,  y a ellas han querido emular mis muñecas. 

En los últimos años hemos podido ver a numerosas actrices, modelos, presentadoras, cantantes, mostrando su cuerpo para esta excelente causa como por ejemplo Eva Mendes o Christy Turlington.

Y es que no es difícil combinar moda y amor hacia los animales. Actualmente existen tejidos que imitan incluso el tacto suave de un abrigo de piel, y abrigan igual o más que los hechos con el sufrimiento de seres vivos.

Algunos diseñadores de renombre se han unido a la moda “cruelty free” (libre de crueldad) mostrando su repulsa hacia el empleo de pieles y presentando colecciones libres de ellas. Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, Vivienne Wetswood, Tommy Hilfiger (cuyas fragancias son también cruelty-free), Betsey Johnson y Charlotte Ronson son algunos de esos diseñadores que dan ejemplo de que la moda no ha de ser sinónimo de crueldad. I am here today to tell you how some of my Barbies (not every because some of them cannot be remove from their clothes) have said NO to fur.

First celebrities who joined this PETA’S campaign are The Go-Go’s girls in 1991, Gina Schock, Kathy Valentine, Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, and Charlotte Caffey, so my Barbies have tried today to emulate them.

In recent years we have seen to many actresses, models, hostesses, singers, showing their body for this great cause; for example Eva Mendes and Christy Turlington.

And it is not difficult to combine fashion and love for animals. Currently there are fabrics that mimic even the soft touch of a fur coat, and they are as hot as or even hotter than the others made with the suffering of living beings.

Some famous designers have joined the cruelty-free fashion world showing their aversion to the use of fur and featuring fur-free collections. Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, Vivienne Wetswood, Tommy Hilfiger (whose fragrances are also cruelty-free), Betsey Johnson and Charlotte Ronson are some of these designers who exemplify that fashion should not be synonymous with cruelty. Barbie has dressed some of them as Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren and here you can find more information about them:

Barbie Heidi Klum.

¡Hola Barbie adictos!

Aquí estoy para presentaros a otra de las habitantes de mi vitrina, una de mis preferidas. Se trata de Barbie Heidi Klum, una Pink Label del año 2008 perteneciente a la colección The Blonde Ambition (integrada por Heidi, Marilyn Monroe y Goldie Hawn) creada por Mattel en colaboración con la top model alemana. 

Barbie luce para la ocasión una larga melena rubia con suaves ondas, larguísimas pestañas y grandes pendientes dorados. El vestido reproduce el utilizado por Heidi durante una actuación junto a su ahora ex marido, el cantante Seal, acontecida durante el Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show del año 2007; un modelo de lentejuelas rosas y doradas. El look se completa con unas originales sandalias de tacón doradas con detalles en rosa.

Algunas curiosidades:

-          El anillo que lleva Barbie, es una reproducción del diamante amarillo de 12 quilates que Seal regaló a Heidi en su compromiso.

                                           

-          Es la primera Barbie que lleva un conjunto de ropa interior compuesto por un sujetador y una braguita rosas pintadas. No solo se trata de un pequeño homenaje a la archiconocida firma de lencería Victoria’s Secret para la que Heidi es modelo (o más bien ángel, como son conocidas las modelos de la marca), sino que se trata de un expreso deseo de la top, a la que de pequeña le daba cierta rabia que sus muñecas Barbie no llevaran nada bajo la ropa.

-          El vestido está ligeramente modificado del original del que es copia también por deseo de Heidi, quien quería que tuviera muchas lentejuelas rosas para que esta Barbie fuera la favorita de su hija. La parte de atrás del vestido muestra menos espalda que el que la espectacular modelo lució en 2007 por cuestiones de recato.

Hi Barbieaholics!

Here I am again because I want to introduce you other of my showcase’s resident, one of my favorites. This is Barbie Heidi Klum, a 2008 Pink Label from the collection The Blonde Ambition (composed of Heidi, Marilyn Monroe and Goldie Hawn) designed by Mattel in collaboration with the German super model.

Barbie looks gorgeous for the occasion with her wavy long blonde hair, looong lashes and big old earrings. The dress reproduces the one which Heidi wore during a Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show performance in 2007 with her now ex husband, Seal; a little gold and pink sequins dress. The look is completed with high heels gold sandals with pink details.

Some trivia:

-          Barbie’s ring is a reproduction of the twelve-carat yellow diamond that Seal gave Heidi for their engagement.

-          This is the first Barbie Doll wearing a lingerie set composed by a pink bra and slip painted on her body. It is not just a little tribute to the well-known lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret for which Heidi is a model (or rather an “angel”), but it is a wish expressed by the Top Model, because she remembers how much she hated when she was a little girl, that her Barbie Dolls wore nothing under clothing.

-          The copy dress that Barbie wears is slightly modified from the original in order to another Heidi’s wish, who wanted a Barbie with many, many pink sequins, so that was her daughter’s favorite doll. The spectacular original dress’s back is a little bit less spectacular in Barbie’s dress because of modesty reasons.

¡Buenas noches de sábado queridos lectores!

Como ya escribí en el primer post de este blog, no quiero limitarme al mundo de las Barbies a la hora de publicar en este pequeño mundo de letras. Cada fin de semana trataré de hablaros de lugares interesantes en los cuales comer, merendar, tomar un té, ver un partido de fútbol, tomar una cerveza o una copa con amigos, bailar o jugar un billar, por ejemplo. Quiero contaros que aceptaré sugerencias, para ello quiero habilitar en breve un correo electrónico al que podréis mandarme vuestras recomendaciones sobre vuestros lugares favoritos, tiendas, restaurantes, pubs, cafeterías, museos, exposiciones, largo etc., que os gustaría ver en el blog. Ya os iré contando más sobre esta idea y explicaré mejor cómo me gustaría que funcionara. Poco a poco.

Hoy, primer sábado de blog, os invito a conocer uno de los lugares en los cuales me siento más a gusto. Se trata del Oreka Antzokia, una cafetería de día y pub de noche en Zalla, Vizcaya, con todo el encanto pop de los años sesenta y el minimalismo más moderno. Allí podréis tomar por la tarde un delicioso café con un toque de canela o escoger una infusión aromática con chocolate blanco de su amplia carta de tés; degustar una cerveza con aperitivo de rabas durante el tapeo del domingo por la mañana o bailar música de todos los estilos y tiempos, bien escogida y pinchada con una copa servida con gusto en la mano. El trato del personal es inmejorable y además el lugar cuenta con cómodos sofás y sillas perfectos para charlar y distraerse con amigos en el mejor de los ambientes. ¡Altamente recomendable!.

Happy Saturday night dear readers!

As I wrote in the first post of this blog, I do not want to confine Odds and Dolls to Barbie World, so, each weekend I will try to bring you interesting places where you can for example eat, snack, tea, watch a football match, take a drink with friends, dance or play a pool. I want you to know that I will accept suggestions, and for that matter I want to enable an email where very soon you will be able to send me your recommendations about your favorite places, shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs, museums, exhibitions and much more, that you would like to see on this blog. Soon I will be telling you more information about this idea and I will explain you better how will it works. One step at a time.

Today, first Saturday blog, I invite you to visit one of the places where I feel most comfortable. This is the Oreka Antzokia, a café during the day and a pub by night at Zalla, Vizcaya. With all the charm of the groovy pop sixties and the modern minimalism. There you can taste a delicious coffee with cinnamon touch in the afternoon or choose an aromatic tea with white chocolate from them extensive menu of teas; enjoy a beer and fried calamari during Sunday “tapas” morning, and you can also dance all styles of yesterday and today music all night long with a well served drink on your hand. The staff is excellent, unbeatable, and the place has comfy sofas and chairs, perfect for chatting and enjoy with friends at the best atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Escarlata O'Hara, Barbecue at Twelve Oaks.

¡Buenos días muñecas & muñecos!

Quiero estrenar este blog presentándoos a la que probablemente es la joya más preciada de mi vitrina: Scarlett O’Hara Barbecue at Twelve Oaks.

Una edición limitada para coleccionistas del año 2001, first in a series, que tardé tiempo en conseguir y que llegó por fin a mi vitrina el 22 de octubre de 2011. Como podéis ver, es toda detalle; desde los pololos, las botas y la tela del vestido al collar, los pendientes, el sombrero y el peinado. Su cara es una reproducción exacta de Vivien Leigh, la actriz que dio vida a la heroína de la Guerra de Secesión, Escarlata O’Hara. 

Algunas curiosidades:

-          El vestido que lleva Escarlata en la película durante la barbacoa en Doce Robles y que reproduce Barbie, en el libro lo lleva para la barbacoa, y al comienzo de la historia, durante la escena con los gemelos Tarleton en el porche de Tara. Así se describe el vestido en la primera página de Lo que el Viento se Llevó, por Margaret Mitchell:

“… Sentada con Stuart y Brent Tarleton a la fresca sombra del porche de Tara, la plantación de su padre, aquella mañana de abril de 1861, la joven ofrecía una imagen linda y atrayente. Su vestido nuevo de floreado organdí verde extendía como un oleaje sus doce varas de tela sobre los aros del miriñaque y armonizaba perfectamente con las chinelas de tafilete verde que su padre le había traído poco antes de Atlanta. El vestido se ajustaba maravillosamente a su talle, el más esbelto de los tres condados, y el ceñido corsé mostraba un busto muy bien desarrollado para sus dieciséis años…”

Vuelve a lucirlo al día siguiente en la barbacoa, dado que, a pesar de la indignación de Mamita por ser este un vestido de tarde, Escarlata quería impresionar a Ashley Wilkes y eclipsar a Melanie.

-          Barbie Barbacoa en Doce Robles reproduce incluso los encajes del chal que Escarlata llevaba sobre los hombros por órdenes de Mamita. También el sombrero de paja anudado al cuello por una gran lazada de terciopelo verde y las joyas de coral, así como el peinado con dos pequeños lazos verdes a los lados.

Os dejo por hoy con las escenas de Gone With The Wind en las que Scarlett luce el vestido con el que Mattel vistió a esta joya hecha Barbie. Fiddle Dee Dee!

Morning Dolls & Dollies!

I want to release this blog introducing you one of my showcase’s best jewels: Scarlett O’Hara, Barbecue at Twelve Oaks.

A 2001 collectors limited edition, first in a series, that took me a long time to get, and finally arrived to my showcase October 22, 2011. As you can see, she is everything details; from bloomers, boots and the cloths of her dress, to the necklace, earrings, hat and hair. Her face is an exact reproduction of Vivien Leigh’s facial features, the actress who brought to life the heroine of the Civil War, Scarlett O’Hara.

Some trivia:

-          The dress that Scarlett (and Barbie to) wears during the Barbecue at Twelve Oaks, is in the book the same dress that she wears at the beginning  of the novel during the scene with Tarleton twins in Tara’s porch.  Here you can read the description of that beautiful dress, extracted from the first page of Gone With The Wind, by Margaret Mitchell:

         “…Seated with Stuart and Brent Tarleton in the cool shade of the

                porch of Tara, her father's plantation, that bright April

          afternoon of 1861, she made a pretty picture.  Her new green

            flowered-muslin dress spread its twelve yards of billowing

    material over her hoops and exactly matched the flat-heeled green

    morocco slippers her father had recently brought her from Atlanta.

        The dress set off to perfection the seventeen-inch waist, the

       smallest in three counties, and the tightly fitting basque showed

                       breasts well matured for her sixteen years…”

She wears it again the next day at the Barbecue because, despite Mammy’s frustration for being this and evening gown, Scarlett wants to impress Ashley and eclipse poor Melanie.

-          Barbie Barbecue at Twelve Oaks reproduces even the laces that Scarlet’s shawl have in the movie, the same shawl that she wears on the orders of her Mammy. Also the straw hat tied at neck by a long loop of green velvet, her coral jewelry and the hairdo with two small green ribbons on the sides.

Bienvenidos a un blog para todos en el que hablaremos de Barbies y otras cosas bonitas de la vida y del día a día. ¡Tomad asiento en mi casita de muñecas! 

Este blog que llevaba varios meses siendo un proyecto, arranca hoy abierto a ideas. En principio hablaré en él sobre Barbies, y más que sobre Barbies, sobre el mundo Barbie desde mi punto vista. Compartiré con vosotros mi colección y mis opiniones sobre las novedades o no tan novedades de Barbie Collector. También quiero dejar abierta la puerta a posibles entradas sobre moda, música, lugares bonitos, viajes, complementos, tiendas chic... Este pretende ser un lugar open&pink&cool, de modo que el abanico de posibilidades es tan amplio como lo es el día a día de una chica como la que os escribe y las ideas de sus allegados, familiares, lectores o amigos.

Empiezo agradeciendo a las chicas (también a los chicos pero ¡sois menos!) del grupo de Facebook Pasión por Barbie, porque sus ganas de compartir nuestro hobby, el coleccionismo de Barbies, han hecho que volvieran a mí las fuerzas y la ilusión para dar pistoletazo de salida a este nuevo blog. ¡GRACIAS! Los nuevos proyectos siempre son soplos de alegría.

This blog took several months being just a project and today starts off. I want you to know that I’m open to creative ideas and suggestions. In the beginning I will write about Barbie, and rather than about Barbie, I will write about Barbie World from my point of view. I will share with you my collection and my opinion about news and not so news of Barbie Collector. Also, I want to leave an open door to possible future posts about fashion, music, beautiful places, travels, accessories, cool shops… This aims to be a place open&pink&cool so the possibilities are wide and extensive, as broad as my everyday and the ideas of my people and my readers, of course!

I begin by thanking  the girls (also the boys but hey, you are less!) at Passion for Barbie Facebook group, because their desire to share our hobby have made back my strength and illusion to launch of  this new blog. THANK YOU! New projects are always breaths of joy.
